The small paved seating area, set at 45 degrees to the front of the house, shown here prior to being closed off with two fence panels and a gateway.

The slabs chosen were Stonemarket's honey gold "Millstone Flags", pointed with a proper wet mortar mix with a yellow dye additive.

The variety of shades and surface markings, even amongst same-sized slabs, make the Millstone flag particularly authentic-looking and attractive.

A timber "kerb" was added to give an unusual  finish to the patio edges and create a sunken effect. The kerb was constructed from solid lengths of 250 x 125 mm pressure-treated softwood, with a large chamfer to the upper inner edge.

A simple pergola will provide semi-shade on hot summer days, just as soon as the wisteria, newly planted against the neighbouring garage wall, "finds its roots".

The pergola posts also serve as fence posts (fence not shown) to separate the garden from the shared car driveway.
